Old houses have become something of a niche specialty for us, perhaps because they require the patience of someone with real respect for their secrets.
An old home is always a work in progress. We've endured cheesecloth walls and eternal renovations, and we've learned to listen to a house before we change it.
On projects like our Palo Alto shingle home — stripped to the studs and raised for a full basement addition — the goal is never to erase history. It's to let the architecture keep its soul while quietly making it work for modern life.
Respect the bones, honor the story, and the character takes care of itself.
